Finally, after 2 years, we were able to go to Maison et Object. The most fantastic exhibition when it comes to table decoration, and, a great reason to go to my beloved France. I get so much energy from a day at such an exhibition, from all the people and all the beautiful table decorations for the home. Purchasing is a little tricky this year compared to previous years. Besides the obvious price inflation (due to raw material and transport costs rising) there has also been fewer products developed. Less stock is being produced and that causes longer delivery times. All this aside, we have managed to find a few jewels at the exhibition.
Table decoration inspiration 2021.
The New country look, with natural raw materials such as linen, cognac leather, untreated raw wood and knitwear, is still one of the biggest trend at the exhibition. There is a lot of attention to hand craftsmanship. We want to bring the calming idea of the idyllic countryside in to the home. We spotted some awesome napkin rings made from real leather. Available soon at Cottona!
With the New Global look we are compensating for our longing to travel, we are bringing other cultures and interior styles in to our homes. Handmade products made from raffia are giving us that holiday feeling. It no longer needs to be perfect. You are allowed to see that the products are handmade, the small imperfections create character. In a small exhibition stand we were introduced to a producer of raffia table decorations. The young owner and his girlfriend sell the products in Europe and the owners brother organizes the production in the weaving mill in Madagascar. You can genuinely feel the joy when placing an order with them.
It gives you a good feeling when you can help those just starting out. That the delivery time takes a little longer we take it with a pinch of salt. The raffia place mats will be available to order from January 2022 at Cottona.
Due to the changes around the world we are searching for safety, conservative behavior and traditions. The New Traditional look represents our need for nostalgia. We are mixing well known patterns, colors and materials to create a richly decorated interior comfort. An atmosphere that makes us feel safe. We are being inspired again with the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. There is a lot of attention to detail! Details give it the finishing touch, in the fashion, in architecture and on the table.
La vie est belle.
